Help me give my students Rocketbooks to bridge the gap between the benefits of handwritten work and the ingenuity of technology to improve the education of my students in quality and quantity.
I teach students with disabilities in the high school setting. Our students are from historically high poverty areas that have low employment and high drop-out rates. My students are full of potential, but are being held back by the lack of classroom supplies, resources and other factors outside of their control. Each day they come to school ready to learn despite the barriers they face each day.
Each day, I incorporate a variety of learning strategies, whole group, small group, and alternative seating to ensure each students needs are met.
Coming from a high poverty area, my students’ parents are not all able to provide school supplies multiple times a year. Providing my students with a reusable notebook, a Rocketbook, would be a game changer and would potentially increasing their performance in the classroom. The Rocketbook would allow my students to complete assignments of varying subjects and topics, show their work and turn in the assignments on the computer. This digital notebook is full of endless possibilities!
My Project
My students absolutely love learning through technology. This project will put a digital, reusable notebook in the hands of each student. The use of Rocketbooks in the classroom will reduce the economic strain on teachers and students who constantly have to buy notebook paper and binders. Each student will be able to complete given assignments, submit them, completely erase the page and reuse the notebook again without constantly using notebook paper. The Rocketbook also gives the students the opportunity to be more responsible by taking academic notes and uploading them immediately. They help combine note taking with technology.
Rocketbooks combine the ease and resourcefulness of technology with the age old method of learning; note taking.
Digital storage will decrease the hundreds of pages of notebook used daily. The Rocketbook will allow students to complete their assignment and upload their work to digital locations, such as iCloud, Google Drive, Google Classroom, Dropbox, or directly to their email account. The use of Rocketbooks in the classroom will promote student responsibility, increase productivity, expand the use of technology, reach all learners and boost student engagement.
