Help me give my students Caldecott books as well as other high interest books that they can enjoy reading with their family members. This will help to foster excitement to read at home while improving literacy.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I have had the privilege to work with generations of students for the last 25 years being their Art, 2nd, and now 5th grade teacher as well as their Youth Leadership Team advisor. Our children are faced with a lot of challenges which includes not meeting grade level expectations due to their lack of literacy.
Literacy strengthens the minds of youth so they can experience the world around them.
Over the years, I have had many conversations with "my kids". I have asked "What kind of books do you like to read they say, "I don't have any to read." The most important step to improve literacy is to give them an opportunity to have books that they are interested in and can read.
My Project
The ability for our children to select books that they enjoy is a stepping stone to improve literacy. The more our children are actively engaged with books, the more they will learn and be excited about sharing their knowledge. The books will be given out during our "Rocking with Reading" Family Reading Night after our Youth Leadership Team (Grade 4-6) presents the importance of literacy.
Family engagement is an important factor to literacy development.
When literary success is encouraged and supported by the family, children are more likely to want to read and enjoy reading which well help them to excel in all areas of academics.
