This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
The Tiger School students are academically successful which is reflected in the end of the year test results. These students excel in spite of residing in low income housing. Many people term them as being “at-risk” students who will never excel in life. However, the “Tiger” school belief that all students will excel upon entering and learning in our school setting. Much love is given to these students who care love and academia. When pushed and reminded of their greatness, these students are able to compete with affluent students.
Poverty has never been a hindrance to our student’s ability and willingness to learn.
“Tigers” are dedicated and dire heart students who give greater than 100% to their learning. In the face of poverty, single family households, and drugs infested neighborhoods the parents and students dream a better life. A harsh living situation is the reasoning why both parent and students push themselves daily to learn and grow out of poverty. The school family is interwoven around the students and parents and are supportive of our student’s abilities and interest in being great students.
My Project
Upon receiving grant funding for supplies that includes spirits pencils, erasers, wristbands, rainbow springs, and gel pens my students’ will become inspired learners. These at-risk students will ignite as they will find purpose for their learning and improvement of behavior due to rewards being received. The school academic and behavior reward system includes Class DoJo, which monitors students’ academic and behavior success through teachers’ issued points. Studies show when students receive small rewards for academic/behavior their interest and motivation level increases. Students will feel joyous and motivated to learn and behave because of their new found sense of pride.
The greatest reward of receiving funding includes students’ self-confident, pride and feeling of success triggered by the results of receiving an award for a job well done.
This new found love of improvement in both academics and behavior will result in students overall success in all areas of learning. The school lives of students will improve as less emphasizes will be placed on behavior and students will take on more responsibility for both learning and behavior. The praise that students will receive from teachers will increase students’ incentive to learn and do well. Lastly, the return of investment of having school pride incentive gifts will become more valuable than gold.
