I work on reading with 31 energetic students, grades 3-5. As the reading intervention teacher, I help students become stronger readers. Like many students their age, they need to move around sometimes to facilitate learning. When reading is a challenge it is often difficult to focus in a hard, plastic chair.
Children thrive on choices!
I want my students to have the opportunity to sit in seating that is comfortable for them as they read. This might be a wobbly seat, a beanbag chair, or even the floor. By providing them with a choice in the seating that fits their needs they will better be able to concentrate on the task at hand-reading.
My Project
My students work very hard on their reading. To try to help them focus I would like to eliminate distractions. One common distraction is having to sit still in a plastic chair.
By having the choice of flexible seating, students can wiggle while working and have full concentration while reading.
Since these chairs are not distracting to those reading around them, they can easily move around while classmates continue their own reading.
This change of seating can also be a change for the students' typical seating throughout the day. They may really look forward to reading class, which makes the task of reading even more enjoyable.
Thank you, in advance, for any donations for these seats. I know my students will appreciate them!
