My students need one HP laptop computer in the classroom.
This project expired on July 6, 2010.
Hooray! This project is fully funded
I teach Reading Recovery at my school. Reading Recovery is a research-based program for early literacy intervention for struggling 1st graders. Research demonstrates that 1st grade is the critical age to catch students who are struggling and provide them with intensive, 1 on 1 instruction to bring them up to grade level. This is an extremely successful program, and I am very proud to hold this important position to help our 1st graders succeed in reading and in future educational endeavors.
Because there have been drastic budget cuts in my district, there is no school funding to assist with special needs of this classroom. While I have had a computer accessible to me up to this point, it is in need of replacement and there are no funds available in my district or school to achieve this.
To increase student access to literacy at home, I need an HP computer to demonstrate to my students how to access websites that will give them rich and inviting ways to practice their literacy skills. This computer will allow me to teach students to access websites such as Starfall, Literactive, and other high quality literacy sites on their computers. This computer will also give students an opportunity to publish their writing.
Access to this laptop will also give me a much needed tool to use in staff development. I can develop PowerPoint presentations to share teaching strategies which will help teachers to help more children than just the students who are assigned to me. In addition, it will be beneficial during school literacy nights to demonstrate ideas for parents to implement to increase literacy at home. Lastly, it will give me a much needed resource for contacting parents with literacy information and ways to continue to help their students be successful.
Your generosity will be appreciated by these children, not only this year but for their entire lives. Thank you for considering this proposal.
