This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I work with a wonderful group of students who are between the ages of 5-9 who happen to have autism and/or multiple disabilities. All of our students receive free school breakfasts and lunches due to coming from low income families. My students enjoy coming to school and feel that school is the happiest time of their days. My students are enthusiastic learners who are very thankful for any items they receive. Forty percent of our students are homeless. We really could use the extra supplies at our school. We really appreciate your support.
My Project
My students seek sensory input. The rocking chairs will help them balance themselves out throughout the day.We recently had a Donors Choose funded for the pads for the rocking chairs. The pads for the rocking chairs will help to keep them clean.
Rocking Chairs will help my students balance their sensory input.
More and more in special education sensory breaks are being taken throughout the day. My students with autism on average take a break 5 times a day. These rocking chairs will help my students have a break that is productive and relaxing. It will also be a good way for the students to unwind after a stressful weekend or activity.
