My Students
My class is comprised of three and four year old students with a variety of developmental delays. Our school community is home to students with diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds. Our early intervention classroom is a busy place! My students have difficulty communicating their wants and needs and benefit from a variety of activities which involve using all their senses.
My students work hard exploring through play and learning how to communicate with others.
They love music and movement, cause and effect toys and lots of play with sensory materials.
My Project
All preschoolers need to move and explore. And my special needs preschoolers are no exception! Their bodies are on the go and they often seek out specific kinds of movement to help calm their bodies so they can be available for all kinds of learning opportunities.
When my students feel calm, they have a much easier time listening to stories and participating in all kinds of appropriate activities that help them learn.
Some of my students like to jump, some like to swing, others like a rocking motion. The Abilitations Squoosh chair will provide students with a giant "hug" to help calm their bodies as well as allowing them to experience a rocking motion which can help to organize their little bodies.
