Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are bilingual students that must close the language gap to become successful in the classroom. Many of them speak Spanish at home and English in school and lack the educational support they need to acquire English at home.
I currently teach 20 dual language second graders.
As a firm believer in education, I believe it is important to modify the classroom to meet the needs of my students. Students need to be physically and mentally engaged for learning to occur. An engaged student is an active participant eager to learn.
Despite being in an area that was affected by Hurricane Harvey, my students are motivated and ready to learn.
My Project
Over the years, students have lost focus in the classroom. This is due to the structure of the classroom. Students are required to sit for long periods of time with little to no physical stimulation.
Flexible seating, like these yoga ball chairs and lap desks, would help my students get the "jitters" out while they work.
Despite the implementation of work stations and other opportunities for the students to get out of their desks and have some type of movement in their day, the reality is that most of time the students are working at their desks, either individually or in groups, to apply the different concepts they have learned.
