Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
There is an eclectic multicultural population at our school with students from various diverse social and economic backgrounds. Our students are eager to expand their musical knowledge and explore new approaches to playing music.
The students who attend our school are curious and eager learners.
They enter music class with an excitement to learn and enthusiasm to participate. This excitement and energy often leads to an excess of physical energy that needs to be channeled in creative and innovative ways.
My Project
Our K-5 music class is a springboard for musical exploration and one of the central goals is establishing fluency in reading rhythm notation. Hokki stools will allow the movement needed to rock back and forth as a means of reinforcing tempo while reading and playing rhythm notation.
Many of our students are energetic and rambunctious so new strategies to channel their energy into productive movement are always extremely helpful.
Not only do the Hokki stools allow them to provide their own rhythmic reinforcement by swaying back and forth but it also channels their excess energy into the productive act of strengthening their tempo while they play.
The incorporation of the Hokki stools in our music class would primarily help students establish the rhythmic foundation of our music as they play drums, percussion, recorder, and even the ocarina! These stools will allow them the freedom in mobility to reinforce the tempo in a given song by sitting down on the stools and using their hips and/or feet to sway or rock along with the beat while playing their instrument.
By donating to this project, you will help our current class as well as future students by allowing us to offer more diverse and innovative solutions for our young students to channel their energy and excitement in a way that strengthens their musicianship.
