Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Kindergarten days are jam-packed with learning everything from letters to numbers, to sight words to basic addition, and how to read. There is so much learning to do and it is my job as an educator to ensure that all of my students are able to do their best learning, while also building a love for school.
My students are eager to learn so they can reach their dreams of being dentists, astronauts and authors.
They have already made so much progress and I can't wait to see how much growth they will continue to make.
As a public charter school, we have students attending from Richmond as well as a number of surrounding communities. Our school focuses on creating a space that meets the needs of all learners, enabling them to think and act in a way that will help them become agents of change in their community.
My Project
The iPad will allow students to record themselves reading and listen to it so they can tell if they are reading fluently or not. This will also help with assessments, so I can have students read to themselves, and I can analyze their data to find areas where they can continue to grow.
While students have already made a lot of growth, they will use these materials to help them become even better readers.
The white boards, markers and organizational tools will be used in small groups so we can maximize our time together learning new words, practicing sight words and ensuring we are learning the basic rules of reading, like bossy e, vowel teams and letter sounds. These skills will create the foundation for students to build their comfort and confidence in reading so we can help them make the shift from learning to read and instead focus on reading to learn!
