This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I serve a diverse group of student-musicians. We are an immigrant school, and are proud to represent many countries of origin. Through music, we celebrate our varied cultural backgrounds.
My students are brilliant but are often unable to afford private music lessons, so I work to provide them with as many quality musical experiences as I can in the General Music classroom and in after-school programs.
When given opportunities, these kids rise to the challenge and express their musicality with creativity and passion.
My Project
My students will learn to perform melodies and melodic accompaniments on the recorder. We will use games and practice strategies to learn performance, improvisation, and music literacy. Students will perform music from a variety of styles and genres that celebrate their interests and cultural backgrounds. Sterisol will be used to keep recorders sanitized and ready for music-making.
By donating toward this project, you will give a tangible musical gift to students who deserve every opportunity.
They will enjoy creating music with real, "cool" instruments. Using your gift, they will master state learning standards and prepare for future opportunities in band and orchestra ensembles.
