My students need diverse literature to expand their understanding of the world around them and to be able to see themselves in the books they read to help develop their love of reading!
My students are full of life! They come in each morning eager to learn and work with their classmates. My students are constantly asking questions and wondering about the world around them. They are driven by new challenges that they face in the 21st century.
Books have the power to change us!
Books instill confidence, grit, and resilience to each individual reader. It is my goal as an educator to expose my students to as much literacy as possible throughout the school year.
My students are creative, intelligent, and motivated individuals. It is my goal as a second grade teacher to keep my students safe, love them, and teach them as much as I can. I truly want to foster each child's love for learning and help every student feel successful.
My Project
We need books in our classroom library that reflect each individual reader in our room and in our community. Representation in children's books is essential for empowering my students to love themselves and can help dismantle stereotypes of those that are different.
If kids don't see themselves reflected in the books they read, they are getting a message that they are not worthy of being represented.
I want to expose my students to a variety of books through both read aloud and independent reading. These books, including titles such as Same, Same But Different, and Fly Away Home, cover a wide range of topics such as friendship, persistence, poverty, growth mindset, acceptance, and more! With these books, my students will have the opportunity to explore, engage, and grow as readers.
