Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students at our high school make me feel so excited to come to work every day. They are some of the most kind and respectful kids I have ever met. As a class, we often discuss the amount of diversity we have at our school and in our classroom. We are a school composed of students which are 53% Hispanic, 26% white, 12% African America, and 5% Asian.
In my classroom, it is my goal to expose my students to as many forms of art and cultures as I can, as it helps us embrace our diversity and makes our community stronger.
My class is special and unique for the students because I have all grade levels and all learning levels, so students get to interact and create with others that they might not get to see very often. My kids are awesome!
My Project
I am currently teaching a beginning guitar class. My students are learning the basics of playing guitar, such as the parts of the instrument, some music theory, how to play chords and scales, and how to read tablature.
The first and most important part of learning how to play guitar is making sure your instrument is in tune.
Without proper tuning, learning how to hear and play notes correctly would be difficult.
By having individual tuners accessible to all of my students, it will make our progress as a class more successful. We will spend less time tuning and more time practicing!
