My Students

When the music starts blaring do your feet start tapping and your body start wiggling? Well my students do!

They are a rambunctious, eclectic group of wiggle worms.

They get into the gym and want to MOVE! At home there are not a lot of opportunities to experience the activities we do in PE so they love spending time in the gym with us. The school is in a rough neighborhood with high poverty, 100% of the students are on free and reduced lunches. The students just want to be kids in a safe environment, and they get that at this school.

My Project

My students need an iPod touch for music in the gym to dance, play tag, and ROCK OUT without having to stop to change Cds! Currently we are using a lot of old Cd's. Each time we need to change a song, we have to make sure we are over by the stereo. This can cause problems if a child is injured or we quickly need to get the students' attention. Also, the Cd's get scratched, broken, and lost/taken because they are sitting on the stereo which gets hit numerous times throughout the class period because of its natural location. The music is imperative because it motivates the students to move faster and it greatly affects their activity level. They always request that it be played during various activities such as; jump rope, tag games, hula hoop, etc. Not only do the students love it but it is an integral part of our classroom management. When they hear the music stop, they know to STOP, LOOK, and LISTEN. This allows us to quickly get their attention.

The iPod will make such a huge difference because we can make play lists.

This will ensure we are able to focus our attention on the students instead of changing the Cd. Also, if students have a special request we will be able to meet their needs!
