80%+ of my school's population is at or below the poverty level. My students very rarely are able to experience live music, mainly because they can't afford it. I want to give them that opportunity by providing them with a guitar that can be performed for them on a regular basis.
My students are VERY intelligent children.
They are constantly pursuing a "better version" of themselves. They want to learn and know the world around them. For most of them run about 1,000 miles per hour the second they hit the doors of the school, mainly because they are excited to see new things! Like I stated earlier, my students are very poor. The school is located in a high drug trafficking area. Life is scary more often than not. They don't have much. While in class, one of my students asked if I had a guitar that I bring in for them. When I asked why, the response was heart breaking. "I've never touched one before". I believe this guitar that I am requesting could inspire some of my students to work hard and pursue playing one, one day.
My Project
Since my school's population is so poor, I would like to collect instruments that they normally would not be given the opportunity to experiment with. I will be able to use the guitar in every lesson as all of our books come with guitar chord charts. So the guitar would be played for the children every day. Ultimately I would like to start teaching my students how to play simple chord progressions on the guitar. Having this guitar would ultimately help me provide that opportunity for my students.
My students, although living in low income homes, need hands on opportunities from our school.
I want to provide that for them. Your donation could change the path in which a child decides to walk. As stated earlier, my students live in a high drug trafficking area. Being inspired by hearing a guitar play could put them on a path that turns them into a great musician, rather than a path of drug selling or addiction. You can help me, help them.
