I teach third grade math in one of the best rural schools in Oklahoma! My students are a diverse group with varied levels of learning. Our classroom is a space where we enjoy coming to learn. We are a Title 1 school with the majority of our students receiving free lunches.
My students love to learn in non-traditional ways, such as room transformations, integrating arts into our lessons, and project-based learning.
My students have huge hearts and are extremely curious with their learning. They have creative, compassionate, and passionate attitudes. They are truly amazing people. My school is wonderfully supportive of the active hands-on learning that we do in our classroom. I could not ask for a better environment for these students. We are truly a community!
My Project
Research has proven that the use of flexible seating increases attentiveness. We will use the stability balls as replacements for our ball chairs when needed. We will use the computer chairs in one of our table groupings to give added support and increase engagement. This will allow students to still move around to some extent even if they are at their own space/table.
My students have benefited from flexible seating options currently in our classroom and I am excited to give my students more options.
I can also use the flexible seating choices as an opportunity to encourage tolerance and acceptance of difference among students.
