Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

Millennium Middle School is planning to expand to become a 6-12 College Academy where high school students have the opportunity to earn a two year Associates degree while enrolled. All students will earn their degree free of charge. Millennium Middle School is a Title I school and 87% of the students qualify for free and reduced lunch.

My students are voracious readers and I struggle to keep up with new, exciting novels to have them read.

I created a reading club for my students and we meet once a month. All of my students cannot afford to purchase novels regularly, so I am looking for help to purchase books for the book club.

My Project

My students are voracious readers and these books will help them continue to read current novels that are based on topics relevant to their lives. I'm requesting forty copies of the novel The Sun Is Also a Star which explores the topics of immigration law, time-travel paradoxes, and interracial relationships.

The students will not only read the novel, but they will participate in a Socratic Seminar relating to themes in the story as well as complete research about immigration law.

Students will also complete research about time-travel paradoxes to discuss during the meeting.

Rockets Reading Club provides motivation for students to enjoy reading by giving them the opportunity to read current novels with main characters they can relate to.
