Help me give my students the resources to finish out the year. Our Chromebooks are starting to lose keys, touch pad function, and volume control, while our basics are running out!
I teach Science and Social Studies and sponsor our Robotics team, at an elementary school in North Louisiana that serves approximately 750 students. Our English Language Learning group comes from homes that speak one of nine different languages.
Our students work hard every year in their academics and to provide lots of community service engagement to people in our community who are in need.
We are lucky to have such kind, caring, empathetic children who are focused on becoming the best they can be. Our school is also proud to serve military families and children of Barksdale Air Force Base. These children help diversify our population even more, bringing knowledge, cultures, and information about communities where their families have been stationed and have served.
My Project
It has been a great school year! My third graders have really taken to the challenges that come with entering a testing grade. We have spent so much time building background knowledge, doing hands-on experiments, and discussing topics that range from the scientific method to Poverty Point to adaptations to the Louisiana Purchase.
I am so amazed by the goals these kids set for themselves and how they continue to meet and surpass them.
However, our materials are running low. Basics like pencils, spirals, glue, and erasers are on their last lead, the last few pages, sticky bits, and nubs. I like to make sure our students have a mix of both traditional paper and pencil learning, along with a chunk of the curriculum being on technology. Our Chromebooks are starting to lose keys, lose function on the touchpad, and not be able to control the volume. Unfortunately, they are so old that our technology department won't repair them. Little by little we are going to have to replace our older Chromebooks to keep us at 1:1 so that my students can continue to thrive through the use of technology. We are hoping to finish the 2018-19 school year just as strong as we started, so that we are ready for fourth grade!
