Help me give my students hands-on solar system activities and non-fiction read aloud text options!

My students are hard-working, loving, and inspiring! I feel so blessed every day to be a small part of their educational journey. Even though they face many obstacles, they never let those challenges affect their work ethic or confidence. My students inspire me every day to be the best teacher I can be because they deserve the best. The near south side of Indianapolis has some amazing attributes, but my students have also been exposed to some heart-breaking situations
My students absolutely love STEM challenges and we have a daily STEM rotation in the discovery room!
Two years ago, my school piloted a discovery room initiative that allows me to focus on teaching the content area standards of Science and Social Studies. My students rotate through my discovery room twice a day. We have a blast collaborating on group STEM projects and working through the scientific method!
Every year, my students and I look forward to our solar system unit in which we study the stars, planets, and astronauts! Each student chooses a planet and completes a model and report based on their research. These items will help supplement the CKLA unit on the solar system as they will allow students to continue their learning after our daily mini lesson. Each day, the students will use our listening center to hear about Buzz Aldrin, the solar system, and even meteors! They will have 15 minutes a day at the listening center. The students will also get to use the solar system viewer to put a picture with the vocabulary they will hear. I also plan on having a puzzle center with the space puzzle and a 3D rocket puzzle I already own. I know these materials will make this unit very engaging and fun!
