My students need wobble stools, balance ball chairs, Wobble cushions, and stools that will allow them to get their wiggles out while they do their best work.
My first grade students are thoughtful, creative, and enthusiastic learners. They come to school each day excited to learn new things and they aren't afraid to take risks! My students deserve to learn in a classroom that is built to serve their needs. Even though this school year has ended, I am already thinking ahead to the fall and what my incoming first graders will need to be successful.
Many students who enter first grade in the fall have difficulty sitting still while they are working.
My Project
First graders are full of energy, as they should be, they're children! They need to get their wiggles out in order to do their best work. For many students, sitting in a hard chair is not developmentally suitable for them.
Providing my students with flexible seating options will allow them to choose where they work each day so they can be comfortable and successful.
My goal is to have a variety of seating in my classroom beyond regular desks and include stools, floor seating, wobble stools, balance ball chairs, and other options that I've already purchased (bean bags, lap desks, and scoop rockers). After trying out all of the seating options, students can choose where they want to work each day.
