Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Every child learns in his or her own unique way. My students learn best when they are taught material in a way that incorporates all of their senses. They also depend on a routine, structure, and organization to succeed. They are taught best in a one to one or small group setting. I am lucky enough to teach and work with wonderful students in a special education program designed for students with Autism in Yonkers, New York.
My students MUST be involved, stimulated, using multiple learning styles and interested in what they are learning in order for them to retain what I am teaching them and how much they are learning.
In my school, most of the students receive free or reduced price lunch. No matter the challenges they face in their life, they come to school ready and eager to learn each day. Music is key and crucial to learning, especially with my students with Autism. If you could help provide them with this interactive sound system with microphones for small and large group musical productions and concerts you would be helping give them the confidence they need to succeed.
My Project
It would be amazing if we had an interactive sound system to utilize during our school concerts and musical productions for our classes with special needs. Interpersonal interaction through music is one of the fundamental factors for successful inclusion in education for children diagnosed with autism spectrum disorders.
In order to increase opportunities for interpersonal interactions among our students, an interactive sound system would allow our students to learn and perform popular and classic songs.
Our students will learn about different genres of music including rock, pop, country, and hip hop. Visual and auditory aids through the use of music help these children to be aware of social cues, a behavior that is considered important for the development of social interaction.
Allowing my students to use the microphone to sing and perform would make learning songs or the musical activities they are participating in more concrete and hands-on.
Most of the time, our students watching the concerts or performances are not able to focus due to their inability to hear the concert. Allowing them to hear the music presented on a microphone and speakers will help with their attention and retention. If given this sound system, the outcomes and benefits could be endless! It would be used for a variety of activities, events, programs, concerts, and productions. It would provide an outlet for their love for music and to maximize student learning, participation and involvement!
