My students need seating options to help them be more efficient and focused in the classroom. This furniture will give them the opportunity to be immersed in a comfortable, calm, and safe environment!
My students, like all of us, love to MOVE! Their little brains work so much better when they are not stuck in a chair all day. Can you relate? A normal 6 year old has an average attention span of 10-15 minutes yet we expect them to be seated in one place for the majority of the day.
My kiddos thrive when given freedom to make their own choices and take personal responsibility for their learning!
They are independent, hard-working, and rise to the challenges I set for them every day! The children are silly, creative, energetic, and make me so proud!
Their favorite time of the day is during workstations, which is what inspired me to switch to a flexible seating classroom! They LOVE going to different areas in the room to complete tasks, either independently or with guidance from their peers. When relaxed in this environment, they are self-motivated and on-task behavior increases. I can only imagine the academic and social benefits that this opportunity will provide them. These boys and girls are my classroom family and deserve this gift so much!
My Project
Requesting various seating options for my little friends is the greatest gift I could give them, and one that I can offer every child who enters my classroom for years to come. All of the research shows that children need movement in the classroom in order to be most productive. My hope is to establish a working space that fosters creativity and effective work habits! I am asking for soft mats, benches, stools, lap desks, reading pillows, floor seating, inflatable chairs, cushions, and different size tables to create the most comfortable and inspiring classroom possible.
This is the perfect way to give all of my students the opportunity to be the most successful learners that they can be.
By offering flexible seating options, I can provide the boys and girls in my class with choices in their learning. Giving them these freedoms promotes self-regulation and encourages them to practice decision-making skills which help them become more responsible children. When they are in charge of the learning process they are more engaged, able to focus on their work, and excited to perform well. This will positively impact them not just in the classroom, but as they grow into wonderful little people!
I want to make learning enjoyable, entertaining, and comfortable for my students! I believe that first grade lays the foundation for the rest of their educational life and I hope to encourage a deep love of learning in each and every student who comes through my door!
