This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students come from different areas of a city. They hail from many different cultures, backgrounds, and experiences. One thing they have in common is their love for music. Our ensembles do many performances in our school and community. The students like to show their love of music to all.
Sometimes we may have so many students interested in music, we do not have enough supplies for everyone to play an instrument at school.
Unfortunately, not all students can afford to pay for music supplies. We hope to have enough supplies this year so we do not turn anyone away from their chance to learn a music instrument. Music inspires many and changes lives!
My Project
My students were borrowing instruments that are no longer going to be at our school. While using these instruments, we created a school rock program where students are learning guitar, bass, piano, and drum set. We also have many vocalists. The students learn all styles of music. It has created a culture throughout the school where we perform in the halls and share out music with all! This program has built positive relationships, empowered self-image and self-esteem. It has helped students believe in themselves and they are also learning musical skills! These instruments will give the students the power to express themselves in a positive ways!
