Help me give my students a valuable learning opportunity to support their early learning. Education will be the key that changes their lives and makes them global citizens and be able to compete in a job market.
Do you remember when your teacher got the sample Scholastic magazines or book order as a child? Think of the anticipation and excitement you felt waiting for the delivery. My students are inquisitive, voracious, enthusiastic learners. They love the "My Big World" readers which has beautiful, developmental appropriate topics that are paired with photos and simple text to support the love of reading, pre-emergent reading, and writing.

I have a diverse group of learners - special education, regular edu, English Language Learners. I teach impoverished mirco-urban students. These magazines are an essential resource for my students since most do not have access to informational materials at home. They rely on our class resources to have access to high-quality reading. The best thing about the magazines is that each student gets a copy to take home and the family can utilize the resource. The students frequently inquire about when the next magazine will arrive! There is a buzz about the room when I have the box waiting at our morning circle time.
My Project
These readers will provide current, relevant topics to enhance the print-rich classroom that I strive to create. My students really enjoy- as we read and discuss the reader and during their independent, free-choice time, choose to "read" independently! Every student is so thankful that they have their own copy to take home and share with their parent/other siblings. I encourage my families to re-read, have the student read to them, and complete the activity on the back as homework.
With these reader magazines, my students are able to pursue the material independently at their own developmental level.
The topics are easily integrated into our curriculum and support student learning. The best way to increase the love of reading and pre-emergent abilities is to provide high-quality, engaging reading materials that will help my students grow stronger in reading and writing. This project will only help enrich their experiences with the printed word.
