Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Very few of my students will ever have a chance to see beyond our city walls, but you have the chance to bring the world to them through the magic of technology. Now my students can see the world and even talk with students from different countries through live video chats.
I teach twenty-two passionate third graders that are ravenous for learning, but it is difficult to keep them fed because of the constant need for the interactive magic that technology provides.
Our school is a low-income school. Every student receives free breakfast and lunch. For some, school is the only place they have access to technology. I am fortunate enough to share an iPad cart with the entire school, but it is not enough. These kids need daily access to an iPad. Let's start the year off right by putting the keys to their learning in their hands from the start.
My Project
I have requested an iPad mini tablet so my students can have the ability to go onto the internet to research topics that they cannot find in books, or when they don't have access to the right books. My students will also become content creators and make movies to share what they are learning, not only with their peers in the classroom but all over the world!
Our first steps in global learning will be to join the Rock Our World collaborative learning project. We will be connecting to schools across the world using Skype. We will also be learning how to create visual notes about the topics we are learning in the classroom. The ultimate goal of this project will be to create a world book using these visual notes.
This project is just the beginning of our journey into global collaborative learning.
Your donation to this project will give my students their keys to the world.
A world that they would not have the ability to experience without the use of technology. Now my students can visit the pyramids in Egypt, they can hear the words of Martin Luther King Jr., or they can collaborate with students at a school on the other side of the world. Best of all, their parents can now share in their learning, even when they can't physically come into the classroom.
