Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students love to collect rocks. They bring rocks in from recess and look at them under magnifying glasses. I would like to expand on their knowledge of rocks, minerals, and fossils.
My classroom is filled with excited learners!
All of my students love coming to school and learning new and exciting things. Unfortunately, most of my students' home lives are not great. 77% of my school lives in poverty. The majority of my class speaks a different language at home. Most have a broken home to go home to. However, all of my students are successful and happy at school!
My Project
We study a unit of rocks in our Science curriculum. My class has always enjoyed learning about rocks but it is often a difficult concept to grasp. With the purchase of these materials, we would have extra books for my class to put in their book boxes during Daily 5 Reading. The most exciting thing would be the hands-on materials that we would use during center time when my students can explore rocks, minerals, and fossils by holding them and doing experiments with them. There is no better way to learn with my students than by hands-on experiences!
By donating to Rock On!, you will forever touch a child's life who is busy learning about the world around them.
My class will have the best background knowledge of Earth's materials which will help them be successful in 2nd grade and continue as they progress through their education. Thank you for your consideration!
