Help me give my students geodes, a rock tumbler, and a crystal growing kit for the excitement and enjoyment of discovery when they explore rocks and minerals.
My students have different needs and are in a self-contained classroom for their special needs. They love hands-on objects and are interested in learning new concepts in multi-sensory ways.
My students love to use objects for learning letters, numbers, shapes, and colors.
They love to dance and sing to songs about other concepts like 3-D shapes, 10-frames, clocks, money, planets, body parts, Earth, building towers, robots or mobile vehicles. I love to see in their eyes and hear in their voices the excitement when they learn a new concept or build something new or when they are playing or manipulating objects.
My Project
My students love dinosaurs and digging for fossils on their field trip, so I want to extend their interests to how rocks and minerals are formed as well as how crystals grow in the earth.
I want them to discover and make assumptions before polishing rocks, growing crystals and breaking open geodes.
I want them to think about how they are formed and what the environment is like where rocks, crystals and geodes are formed. I have Indian money which is formed from fossil plants. I want them next to think and come up with ideas about how those were formed.
