In the past 5 years I have introduced many outdoor activities for my students and they are beginning to have a true love for the outdoors. They cannot wait for the units of Ice skating, snowshoeing, and cross country skiing. These are activities that the kids can participate and love for a lifetime of movement! I would love to introduce another activity that can be enjoyed in the great outdoors!
The activity that I would love to have my students participate and learn about is rock climbing!
By having a small rock climbing area in our gym this could give our students, an opportunity to participate in an activity that they would otherwise probably not be able to do.
My Project
Students today have so many opportunities to be on computers, video games, and phones that some have forgotten or just don't have the opportunity to be active in the great out of doors! I believe that if kids have the opportunity to experience excitement in different ways to be active in school they will be more likely to choose to be active outside of school. With rock climbing being introduced in the school it will give some kids who may not enjoy or be good at other team type sports might find this as their "thing" that they are good at. The rock climbing holds can be bolted to either the inside wall in the gym or it can be used outside as part of our outside playground equipment.
Is a great way for kids to use their muscles and learn about teamwork and confidence in themselves that they can achieve a specific height or distance with the rock holds!
