Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are spontaneous, clever and funny. They warm my heart with their sweet smiles. They make my heart happy.
I am a bilingual teacher that serves ELLs facing many challenges like learning a new language, adapting to a different culture and in the midst trying to find their own identity.
Despite all this, I am looking to welcoming my students to a classroom that provides plenty of opportunities for my students to learn. I want to keep things simple and provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences. I teach at a school in Texas where 100% of students receive free breakfast and lunch.
I understand the anxiety and pressure associated with being an ELL student because I am also an ELL. My students are not only ELLs, they are the future. They are dreamers, thinkers, talkers, and questioners. They are mini inspirations to themselves and others around them, even if they don't know it yet. They are budding ambassadors, world travelers, scientists, entrepreneurs, and teachers. They are already on their way to becoming contributing members of society in Pre-Kindergarten as they embark on the journey of education.
My Project
Help us welcome a Roomba robot into our classroom that will give my learners an understanding of how robots work while helping us maintain a clean classroom environment. The Roomba Robot will help my learners truly understand the functions and purposes a robot can serve giving them a first hand experience with our very own robot. This robot will be a tangible experience for my learners as they learn about is use and purpose. I hope to inspire my learners to learn more about technology, how things work and what they can do about it.
My learners need a robot and iPads that will give my learners hands on experiences and intrigue them into the world of computer science and engineering.
The ipads will be used to acccess code.org, a website that tracks individual coding progress and provides coding resources. The table we need will be wide enough to comfortably fit ipads and other activities on the table to keep all learners engaged. The chairs will provide age appropriate seating for all learners facilitating engagement in activities during small groups and centers.
