"Children need the freedom to appreciate the infinite resources of their hands, their eyes, and their ears, the resources of forms, materials, sounds, and colors." - Loris Malaguzzi
My students come from diverse cultures.
Many are refugees from Malaysia, Myanmar, and Burma. Their families have left their homes to seek spiritual freedoms and better lives from persecution. Many members of their family had to be left in their Homeland because they couldn't afford to bring the whole family.
Many students live in poverty. School supplies, clothes, snacks, and, of course, unconditional love are given to my students daily. So many students just need love to bring them to a feeling of safety, support, and a sense of home because their home life is unstable.
No matter their challenges, my students are resilient, bright, and inquisitive. They have a hunger to learn and persevere. They are brave and strong. Many won't let themselves be defeated. They give their personal best at each task given to them. My students strive for excellence!
My Project
My students have a growing interest in computer programming and robotics. Grades 2-5 have begun coding on tablets and simple robots. As their interest grows, materials are needed to continue their curiosity.
I'd love to have Dash and Dot robots in my classroom to spark, ignite, and take off in students' interests.
There will be days set aside to introduce how to code Dash and Dot. Another way I will use them in my classroom will be for students who complete their work successfully. Students will be able to program Dash and Dot as a reward for finishing work early and correctly. Students will be empowered by their skills to reach new levels of interest and possible careers.
