My students need the Lego Mindstorms Education Robotics kits in order to experience coding and robot design. By purchasing the 4 robotics kits, my students will have the opportunity to compete in the First Lego League.
Technology will play a huge part in the lives of our students in the future. The goal of my program is to prepare the students for 21st Century Careers by exposing them to as much technology as possible while they are in middle schools so that, when they get into high school and college, they can follow the career path that is most suited to their skills. During the three years that many of the students will be in my class, they will be exposed to print graphics, photography, photo manipulation, digital animation, video production, computer programming, video game design, stop motion animation, 3D printing, Computer Aided Design, and robotics. My classes are made up of 6th, 7th and 8th grade students from Southern California.
My Project
Robotics will be a huge part of the future for our students. Beginning in middle school, our students will be able to design and program their robots to complete real world tasks. Working with the Robotics Academy program from Carnegie Mellon, my students will learn to use ultrasonic sensors, touch sensors, color sensors and many other attachments to overcome real world challenges. Being familiar with robotics and coding will allow my students to begin learning skills needed for the 21st century jobs. As our district has begun to focus our students on career pathways, these kits will give students the chance to experiment with robots and decide if they wish to pursue coding and robotics in high school and beyond.
