My Students

My students are energetic, curious, country kids. I would say they are the typical pre-teen kids we have all heard about, but they are a bit different because gaming is not their only interest. In our small town community, family and outside time are highly valued. My kids are raised to live off the land and respect their elders. This community is almost a throwback to simpler times, but these kids need an opportunity to be competitive in the workplace.

My Project

This year is my school’s first year having a robotics club for 7th and 8th graders. I would like to purchase Spheros to give the kids an opportunity to apply STEM skills to code a robot to perform specific actions. Working with robots is a high interest activity for junior high students. The students also need to be able to create quality presentations for robotic competitions. This year we participated in a competition and were required to prepare a project board describing our work. Robotics presents an engaging opportunity for kids to get involved in Science and Technology, which gives kids skills that will better prepare them for future jobs.
