Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My math classroom is a place of challenge and discovery. Our school is in a small, rural area in the mountains. Despite being in a low-income school district, I strive to inspire my students, both in and out of the classroom.
I am looking to keep things varied and provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences.
I try to challenge them to gain the knowledge and skills they need to succeed beyond high school. As you know, it's not easy to keep a high school student's attention! I want to make my room and fun and interactive as possible.
My Project
Coding is a basic literacy in the digital age, and it is important for kids to understand and be able to work with and understand the technology around them. Having children learn coding prepares them for the future. Coding helps children with communication, creativity, math, writing, and confidence.
Cue robots are a new way to integrate technology, coding, math, art, problem solving, team work, and fun.
I’d like to get a set of the codable robots so that I can put kids together into groups and have them work together to learn how to code the robots and have them do various tasks.
The end goal would be to get the groups to code their robots to sketch the graphs of various equations we are learning. This reinforces what we are learning in new and innovative ways, and ties it to 21st century skill they all need to be college and career ready.
