Ms. Marino from Spring TX is requesting Instructional Technology through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need this BB8 robot to help teach them about coding, technology and responsibility.
My students work extremely hard despite what they face in their personal lives. Many were effected by Hurricane Harvey, and they deserve the best from me. I hope to give them a well rounded education!
My students are 11th graders who have faced hardships that many of us as adults have never experienced.
The students try their very best with the resources that they have and what I am able to give them. Few see college in their future because they need to help support their family. I hope to change that belief and help them realize their true potential.
My students are bright, funny and caring. Most just need to know that someone cares. Most of them come from single parent, low income families. They don't get everything that they need at home and try to get it at school. They deserve the best!
Many of my students have come up to me knowing that I can code robots and they would like to form an informal club after school with robots. I think this is a great way to help students get involved with STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics). I believe this is a fantastic idea because coding can help students in their everyday life. It gives them the confidence that they need to be able to do better in their other classes. I learned coding robots when I was in high school and it helped me so much! It is something that I love to do and I will love to give that gift to my students!
My students can have so much fun learning how to code robots!
I want to start small and eventually lead to bigger and harder codes. I think the BB-8 would be a great robot to start with because it is easy to use, and it is something that my students are familiar with. I believe that it will also teach the students about responsibility because they have to be able to care for their robot and make sure it doesn't break!
I also am the sponsor of a club called Peer Assisted Leadership (PALs), and fifteen students and myself work with around ten students at an elementary school in our district. The students there are also from low income families and low funded schools. I would love to bring the robots there and help these young students find their love of technology!
