This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My class is a wonderful mixture of kids from a high poverty area. My students are African American, Hispanic, and Caucasian that attend a Title I school. They have hard working families who want their child to have a great future.
My kids are awesome because they all have different strengths!
They enjoy working in groups and with hands on materials. They need to make connections between school learning and life skills.
Many of my students are in Tier reading and math groups and need extra encouragement to push themselves. It's amazing to see their faces light up when they grasp new concepts that they struggled with.
My Project
My fifth graders need to learn coding skills. They have used online coding sites and participated in Google coding activities but I want them to see their coding in action.
Robots would allow my students to watch their coding come to life.
They could learn to not only move Dash and Dot but complete projects such as timelines and biographies with these robots. They could also create projects for our system Tech Blitz competition.
Coding is an important part of technological skills. My students need experience with coding to widen their job horizons. I want them to know that technology leads to jobs! Dash and Dot will allow my students to see this in real life.
