"You can teach a student a lesson for a day; but if you can teach him to learn by creating curiosity, he will continue the learning process as long as he lives." ~ Clay P. Bedford.
Our classroom is an active and happening place.
We love to move and explore. Our mission is to become lifelong learners. My students are four and five years old, and they are just beginning to explore the world they live in. Many of my students students receive free or reduced-price lunch.
Many of our students face a lot of adversity in their lives, but they still come to school each day, ready to work hard! To them, school is a place where they feel safe, loved, and valued. Motivating my students to read and learn is crucial, particularly with the higher demands of the new standards.
Many kids are fascinated with all types of robots. They see them everyday on tv and the internet. I don't want robots to be something my students just see on the screen.
I want my students to see the real purpose of robots.
I have requested a Roomba robot vacuum cleaner to show a real robot that serves a purpose. My students will analyze the cleaning droid and observe everything the Roomba does. The Roomba will inspire my students think about robots that help make life better. Hopefully it will spark some amazing ideas in my little four and five years old's minds, and it will keep our carpet clean!
