Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The use of robotics as an educational tool is growing in popularity. Educators need robotics in the classroom to continue to engage and excite our students to better prepare to compete at the global market level. Advances in technology have made in possible for robots to be built in the classroom
I teach middle school students in Houston,TX, who love programming, designing, and building robots.
Robotics assists the educators in getting students focused on science and engineering by providing a hands experience in the classroom, where students can have a greater interest toward discovering the possibilities of improving the world around them. The robotics programming on a laptop allows students to create robots that can solve fairly sophisticated tasks such as locating and removing objects from a defined space. While building and programming the robots on the laptops, students will are building their future. They are learning the deeper things that truly can change the rest of their lives. They are learning about teamwork, cooperative learning, skills that go beyond the science or the math. The students love working with the robots. It's fun. It's exciting. And the skills the students learn will last a lifetime.
My Project
Using laptops to program robots provides students with the opportunity to test the results of abstract design concepts through concrete, hands-on robotic manipulatives. The students will be increasing their critical thinking, team building, and presentation skills to a panel of judges. The students will also have the opportunity to participate in local tournaments in the Houston area. My students will be engaging in project based learning. This is where students design and create using their critical thinking and problem solving skills. Using laptops to program robots will encourage students to be innovative, build their self confidence, knowledge and life skills while motivating them to pursue STEM careers.
The impact this project will have on my students is to introduce them to real world engineering challenges by building robots to complete tasks using their creativity.
It also helps them discover exciting career possibilities and learn how to make positive contributions to society. The students will get to design, build, test, and program robots using laptops and LEGO Mindstorm kits. The students will be able to apply real world math and science concepts using the robots and laptops.
