Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The students in my classroom are amazingly energetic about their mathematics instruction. The composition of my classroom is approximately 95% economically disadvantaged. I teach in an area with a very high Hispanic and African American population.
Despite the challenges they face outside the classroom, within these 4 walls they put forth the maximum effort to grow their mathematical potential.
My students are respectful of each other, disciplined in their academics, and work hard to be successful. They are grateful for the education they are receiving and come to class each day knowing that school is their outlet to a better life. I have a classroom of students who have set goals for themselves through mathematics, and look forward to careers in Science, Technology, Engineering, and of course MATH!
My Project
To prepare our students for this fast advancing technological world, we need to provide them with opportunity to explore and create with technology that is not typically found in school.
A 3D printer would allow students to engineer parts for robots they are building and programming as part of a school wide robotics program.
They will learn to operate the software which will enhance their computer operating skills. They will utilize mathematics to determine exact measurements for the parts they are creating. They will also used closed and open circuits to make their robots mobile. They will apply problem solving skills to move their robot to accomplish challenges that are designated to them.
I simply want to give my students a chance to explore a world that may have alluded them due to their financial disadvantage. I want them to discover an interest they may not have known they had. Finally, I want their academic growth in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics to flourish through ROBOTICS!
