Newberg Robotics is a group of high school students from Newberg, Oregon who compete in ORTOP's FIRST Tech Challenge by connecting the community with STEM, building objective-oriented robots, and building positive character through Gracious Professionalism. Using skills they learn from engineering, computer science, and robotics classes, students design, build, and operate competition robots from May through April. Over the past two years, our robotics program has sent (3) teams to the Oregon State Championship and brought home a total of 12 awards.
Newberg Robotics students are currently renovating the NHS Robotics Lab to better prepare them, and future generations, to compete in the FTC competition. These upgrades will allow the students to develop robots, build new teamwork and engineering skills, and connect more youth through STEM programs in the Newberg-Dundee area. We want this space to be inviting and rewarding, like that of Ms. Davey!
In Their Own Words
We run all over the school to print resources and present research. Not that running is bad, but we could use this time to build stronger robots. We hope this new printer and projector in the robotics lab will make it easier for Mr. Coss and the teams to present information to each other and the public.
Our robotics lab renovations are a collaborative effort. We love to work together, but when we have a meeting and need to present a video, we have to go all the way across the school to the library. We hope to make it easier for our captains to print and present important team information to us.
Our new printer and ink will allow us to print our engineering notebooks, flyers, and graphics for our robot. In addition, a projector will allow us to present videos and documents on our shop wall for easy collaboration. These improvements should make it easier to build our robots, share ideas, and build teamwork skills.
