Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
As a neighborhood school located in a low-income/high poverty area of Indianapolis, our students face many challenges. We serve a diverse population, including students with special needs and English Language Learners. Despite these challenges, we continuously look for ways to engage and inspire students to become innovative thinkers.
Student engagement is crucial to developing students as lifelong learners and preparing them for real world problem solving.
Students love to learn and thrive through inquiry based learning. STEM projects prepare students for future careers in engineering and technology, as well as science and math.
My Project
Research demonstrates that low-income and minority students have limited-access to STEM curriculum (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math). As a result, these students are less likely to choose a career in the STEM field. Investing in expanding STEM resources to students at our school would provide opportunities not currently available. These experiences will potentially create lasting pathways to careers in STEM field and help close the opportunity gap faced by our minority, special needs, ELL, and female students.
The purchase of the VIQC Next Level Full Field and VEX IQ Robots will allow students to bring STEM education to life through robotics.
These items are essential to designing, creating, and programming robots for competitions. Through these competitions, students will learn how to become innovative thinkers and problem solvers.
The purchase and implementation of the VEX IQ Robot Design Kits will increase the interest and likelihood of students pursuing a future career in a STEM field. Our goal is create innovative opportunities for students. As a result, students will become critical thinkers who can participate and contribute to a changing global economy.
