I am super excited to be the gifted teacher for Lavonia Elementary School for the 2018-2019 school year. My goal for my 3rd - 5th grade students is to help them show growth in their achievement.
My students are those in grades 3-5 who qualify as Gifted and Talented under the Georgia Gifted Rule.
LES is a Title I School in rural Franklin County, Georgia. We have a very diverse population. We have 73% who receive free or reduced lunch. We have 65% White, 16% Black, 14% Hispanic, 4% Multi-Racial, and 1% Asian. Our gifted population is not as diverse. My hopes are that with our new grade level screening approach, our gifted population will match that of our school.
We will be implementing an after school robotics club for the Gifted and Talented students in grades 3-5. We want our students to experience coding and robotics in this digital age we are progressing into. These students will have the opportunity to use mathematics and science in conjunction with real world experiences to progress to higher academic achievement levels.
My Project
With the Dash and Dot Wonder Workshop Robots, my students will be able to learn the basics of computer coding. Exposing my students to the apps that program Dash and Dot will begin to foster growth and development in the computer coding world. Dash and Dot will provide engaging and endless learning experiences that will enhance and change our approach to technology.
Dash and Dot will be able to facilitate higher level of thinking, create challenges and push my students to program their own codes and sequences to bring their ideas to life.
I will be able to develop the valuable skills of teamwork, perseverance, and logical thinking through the use of Wonder Workshop. We will be able to take learning and achievement to the next level!
