Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are a group of hard working and inquisitive learners. They work hard and they play hard. I have worked with them for several years as their sponsor of our school Technology Club. I am following them from grade to grade and have come to know that they love to immerse themselves in creative, innovative and challenging hands-on experiences.
My school is dedicated to teaching to the whole child so I want to fill every day with active discovery that challenges the mind and body.
It also promotes the idea that we can always challenge ourselves to reach greater levels of achievement. This respects the individual learning levels of my students and promotes language, collaboration, innovation, creativity, and endurance. This approach is important in a community that lacks extracurricular opportunities and struggles with language because of economic and academic disadvantage.
My Project
Coding is a computer language that makes it possible for us to create computer games, software, apps, websites, and even to control robots! Very exciting! I need the Lego Mindstorms kits, intelligent bricks, batteries, a charger, and memory cards to add to our after-school Robotics Club. Currently, students are often working in groups of 5 or 6 per robot because we just don't have enough kits to go around. This project will allow more students to join and get hands-on experience learning the design, programming, and coding language necessary to build and operate our robotic creations. I am inspired by the Science Everywhere campaign that promotes science learning outside of the classroom because robotics is tremendously engaging at all ages and grades.
With your support, I hope to bring robotics concepts to many more students as well as successful understanding of our state's new Science and Engineering standards.
I hope to have my Robotics Club learners take on many robotics challenges and adopt this new 21st-century learning approach. Among them may be a brilliant coding expert, designer, or robotics engineer that is ready to burst forth. Thank you for your support of this ambitious student robotics and coding project!
