Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
A typical day involves scholars ready to learn by means of 1:1 technology, collaboration among peers, and hands-on activities. Expectations are high yet attainable through hard work and effort exerted by each and every scholar. We are a positive, learning community where "the greatest teacher is their last mistake."
We are a diverse classroom of scholars identified as being Gifted and Talented.
These scholars are creative, enjoy new ways to learn, and come to school with a goal: ready to learn something new. This project will introduce scholars to many new STEAM skills for the first time, possibly sending them down a path not yet dreamed of. Our district has involved, supportive stakeholders where commitment to excellence is the motto for all.
My Project
I teach a multi-week unit on Computer Programming/Science. Incorporating Sphero SPRK robots is a perfect hands-on project for this unit. Scholars will have the ability to drag and drop actions, controls, operations, and more to give their robot orders to navigate through mazes and obstacles.
In preparation for our field trip to NASA-Jet Propulsion Lab, the Sphero robots would give my scholars the opportunity to simulate how NASA-JPL communicates with their own rovers on Mars.
These young engineers will collaborate and work together to perform given tasks as well as draw from their creative side. This type of experience will undoubtedly provide excitement and inspiration to further their education in Science, Technology, and Engineering.
