This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am a librarian at an elementary school located in the Bronx, NY. It is a low income/high poverty Title I school servicing 580 students. One hundred percent of our students receive free lunch.

I am amazed by my students everyday!

As the librarian, I have the opportunity to work with students over multiple years. They have a remarkable spirit and a desire to learn. My goal as a librarian is to give my students the opportunity to explore new ideas, spark curiosity, tinker, and learn to work collaboratively with others to solve problems. I am always looking for new ways to support them in the learning process.

My Project

I have chosen Dash & Dot to help support the learning of code in our school. Students love coding! My students enjoy visiting the library during recess. I want to encourage their creativity during this time.

I can envision small groups of students huddled in different areas throughout the library creating code for their Dash & Dot.

I can see the wonder on their faces as they see their code come to life. I can imagine group races or challenges taking pace. Having the ability to create and see their coding set into action can only inspire a greater level of engagement and creativity.
