My students need these EV3 rechargeable DC batteries to more efficiently recharge our LEGO Mindstorm EV3 Robots for STEM design, build, & code challenges.
My students live in a small supportive community, however, their families are far from being affluent with over 50% qualifying for free and reduced lunch. Some come to school ready to fully engage, others have many real-life obstacles to overcome before they can be ready to focus on learning. Last spring, my students explored using our four new LEGO Mindstorm EV3 Education kits and they found the building and coding challenging, interesting, engaging, empowering, and they were excited to take charge of their learning. They love STEM challenges and working with partners to create and code a LEGO Mindstorm EV3 robot!
This year our groups will be composed of 4 students per group in order to launch the design process, robot building and coding challenges.
My Project
We have experienced a short charge life with AA batteries. Having these EV3 rechargeable DC units will ensure that two block classes per day, back to back, will have needed power to test their program. Efficiency is a priority when building, coding, testing, debugging a robot. One DC rechargeable unit per robot is easier to manage than 6 rechargeable AA batteries for four EV3 kits. At the end of each class, students will disassemble their robot and resort the parts for the next block period. That last class will have the added procedure to plug in the EV3 DC rechargeable unit for the next day of excitement!
