Our small, low-income school does great things! Our scores are exemplary! We rank either first or second in test categories in our district. The school also has a long-standing history to our community. Many of our students are second or third generation attendees of the school. It is not unusual for our parents to have had the same teachers their children have. We serve a wonderful cultural mix of students that includes Catawba Native American students.
We are working to integrate technology into the daily business of teaching and learning at our school!
All students in grades 3-5 have their own iPad or HP laptop that they can take home if they choose. We take assessments in an online format and create multi-media projects using PowerPoint or Movie Maker, for example. Our staff is passionate about what they do and the kids they serve and are always striving to expand their repertoire of instructional style because this generation of children demand interactive instruction to keep them excited and engaged!
My Project
After celebrating the Hour of Code with my students, I knew the next step was to create more opportunities to apply this skill in my library!
The robots purchased with this grant will give my students the interactive hands-on experience to see the beauty and power of coding and inspire them to pursue this activity further!
Even though we are preparing children for jobs that do not yet exist, we do know technology will play a role. This highly interactive project will naturally engage excitement for technology. It is my fervent hope that our children will find joy in coding!
