My female students need to have an opportunity to love programming and robotics with an additional Lego Mindstorm EV3 to decrease the number of girls working on each robot.
My 6th grade girls come into class the the first 3 days of class and half of them make comments like, this is a boys class, I don't like this, and how would I ever use this. I had one parent come in and tell me that her daughter asked to get out of class and a week later she said she loved it.
My girls, my students whom I cherish, are excelling in something they didn't know existed and I want all 70 of them to continue to grow in that area.
If a coed school had 10% girls in its robotics class it would take a class of 700 to get as many girls as we have in the program. With ECE and troubled youth wanting to come to class and learn, I love having this option to teach them about programming and robotics. We spend time planning for challenges and problem solving. My students need an additional Lego Mindstorm EV3 to decrease the number of students on each robot. This will increase their participation by decreasing the number of group members.
My Project
I am requesting Lego Mindstorms! Students will understand and interpret two-dimensional drawings to create three-dimensional models. They will build, test, troubleshoot, and revise designs to improve robot performance, and gain practical, hands-on experience using mathematical concepts such as estimating and measuring distance, time, and speed.
It has been a tough road for my young ladies and I want them to have every chance to see what opportunities can be available to them.
There will be so many programming and computer science positions when they graduate. I love to see how excited they get when they figure out something new. I see some of them finding out there is a whole new world out there that they never knew about. I want to personally thank you for your generosity.
