Help me give my students two EV3 Robot Kits to develop coding and critical thinking skills, collaboration and communication with peers
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My diverse and energetic students are from the Jackson metropolitan area. They absolutely love science. They love learning about science, and they love sharing their scientific knowledge with their peers and community. As stated before, my students are very diverse: white, black, Mexican, Indian, Latino, bi-racial, etc. They come from all different socio-economic backgrounds, but their love for science, technology, engineering, and math is the glue that bonds them together.
The thing I love about my students is that they have no fear when it comes to learning how to use new technology.
They are eager to learn how to code the latest robot, investigate scientific concepts, research Bernoulli's principle, demonstrate the importance of carbon dioxide with dry ice experiments, and so on. Their curiosity causes them to seek knowledge independently of their teacher. They are not afraid of STEM challenges and thinking outside the box. I love watching my students grow into leaders as they facilitate STEM workshops sharing their love for science with their peers and community.
On this week I paid for a few of my students to attend an EV3 Programing Workshop because they have a strong interest in learning to code and program robots. During the workshop my students were so engaged that they spent 4 straight hours, on a holiday, learning to program those robots. Watching their eagerness to learn coding and programing I decided it was time to work on getting our own set of robots.
Robotics is an engaging and fun way to teach coding and programing to students.
I want to teach my students coding to prepare them for the future and keep them current with technological advances. While learning to code the EV3 robots my students will be able to use their creativity and communication skills to collaborate with their peers to accomplish a task. While learning to Code the EV3 robots my students will be able to visualize abstract concepts and apply math to real-world situations.
