Help me give my students snacks for our free, 5-day, Roblox Coding Workshop conducted by a senior gifted student. The participants get instruction, assistance, Roblox accounts, flash drives, lunch, and snacks to help encourage coding and interest.
Our students need some early exposure to coding and get them interested in STEM. The requested materials will provide them with snacks during the free workshop and a flash drive to store their projects. This is a student-run workshop by a talented, gifted senior student with guidance from the Gifted Coordinator.
We did this last year with District support but funds were unavailable this year.
It was a very successful workshop last summer and the students benefitted greatly and went home with some very cool projects that they created and have access to indefinitely to build upon or use as a springboard to develop other innovative programs.
For this summer camp, upcoming 7th graders and high schoolers will learn about many different computer science topics, including programming, game design, and file organization. The computer science and STEM programs are very small due to a lack of interest in the topics. With this camp, we hope to inspire many of the students to consider taking computer-based classes and hopefully help them choose their career path in life. By getting lunch/snacks and supplies like flash drives, it will make the camp much more accessible to the students around the West Shamokin attendance area. After taking the 5-day camp, the 15 campers will all come out with a fully completed game and a better understanding of the game design/programming process.
