The students in my classroom are best described as exceptional. They exceed my expectations in everything I ask them to do. They are passionate about the dramatic arts, and they view theatre as more than a hobby, it is their safe place. My students love the acceptance they feel in drama club, and in return, they pay it forward by spreading that love and compassion to many students in our school.
My students view our drama club as their second family.
Our theatre productions provide a chance for the students to explore themselves and their values all while having fun. I find that the teens enjoy the collaborative environment that theatre provides, and they are always willing to add more "brothers" and "sisters" into their family. My school is in a low-socioeconomic area and this program provides a means of escape for these students.
My Project
Theatre is a collaborative art form that allows students to escape from their present problems and embark into a world of storytelling. As a director, it is my goal to transport my students, and my audience into a different world for each theatrical production. This is accomplished mainly by unique staging and special effects. The bows and quivers will allow us to more realistically tell the story of Robin Hood in our upcoming Spring Play. Arrows will NOT be used in the show, and therefore will be mimed with just the bows and quivers. This will further transport our audience into a the adventurous world of Robin Hood!
Seeing the joyful expressions of my students as they create the magic of theatre is a reward that I will cherish forever.
As a theatre teacher I take my students to musicals so that they can have exposure to this cultural art-form on a professional level. Their expressions of surprise and shock at the "magic" of the theatre experience is always something I treasure. This "magic" is honestly well-timed special effects. I want to help my students create this "magic" for their theatre performances. The requested items will be used as props in the show. The bows will painted to match the time period, and the students will be trained on how to handle the items on stage.
Thank you for your consideration of our special effects request! Please contribute to keep on creating great fine arts experiences for students!
